Chargers don’t have to look dull – this Velox charging stand is proof.Keep your iPhone and AirPods fully charged without compromising style, but be prepared to pay for a slower charge.
The iOttie Velox Magnetic Wireless Charging Duo Stand appears to be a simple black stand with gold detailing and weighs approximately 10.5 ounces (298 grams) overall and measures 5.96 inches (25.4 mm) tall.It’s small, which is appreciated, but the distance between the pad and the magnetic stand is too short for some larger phones to fit comfortably.For example, when I put my iPhone 13 Pro Max on the MagSafe stand, there wasn’t enough room for the earbud case on the charging pad.
Connecting devices is a breeze.Just place the device on the mat and a small LED on the base of the accessory will light up to show the connection status.
The USB-C cable is built in, but unfortunately it doesn’t come with an AC adapter.On the one hand, it’s nice because you don’t have to fiddle with as many extra parts.On the other hand, if for some reason you don’t already have a power adapter, you’ll have to buy one separately.This is a small inconvenience.
Let’s talk about how the Velox Magnetic Wireless Charging Dual Stand stands out from the competition.It’s designed for iPhones, AirPods, and Qi-enabled devices, and costs up to $60.
The iOttie Velox Magnetic Wireless Charging Duo Stand is cheaper than the Belkin MagSafe 2-in-1 Wireless Charger at $99.99.But that stand is Apple-certified and uses MagSafe’s official 15W fast wireless charging speed (twice the iOttie’s 7.5W), so the price hike is to be expected.
The construction of the Velox Charging Duo Stand is unique, but I don’t think that’s enough to warrant the price, since you can get a standalone MagSafe charger that takes up the same space for nearly half the cost (if you don’t mind charging one device at a time) ).
Multiport chargers aren’t new.In fact, if you’re willing to forego the MagSafe feature, you can get a charging cradle for several Apple devices with the same charging speeds for less.Magnets are great, but the $60 price tag can be a deal breaker for many.It’s a more affordable option than many other MagSafe mounts, but that doesn’t make it affordable.
The iOttie Velox Magnetic Wireless Charging Dual Stand has a sleek design and powerful charging capabilities – 5 watts for the charging pad and 7.5 watts for the magnetic stand.They are respectable numbers, but unfortunately locked in by high prices.
If you have a MagSafe-compatible device, the Magnetic Charging Dual Stand is a great option.It fits anywhere and looks great—if the price fits your budget and you can take advantage of the MagSafe utility, this is a charging option you should strongly consider.However, if you’re just looking for a good multipurpose charger, you might be interested in a cheaper option.
At the end of the day, I think the iOttie Velox Magnetic Wireless Charging Duo Stand is debatable for its $60 launch price, as it doesn’t support MagSafe’s official 15W fast wireless charging speed.Given that competing multi-port chargers exist and are much cheaper, I’d consider something like the Azurezone Wireless Charging Station.
It and other similar chargers can charge the same Apple products that the Velox Magnetic Wireless Charging Duo Stand offers, but are about $20 cheaper and come with a port for a third extra device.If you’re looking for a MagSafe charger, the original Apple MagSafe charger is under $40.
For now, the iOttie Velox Magnetic Wireless Charging Duo Stand is a luxury.It looks great, but is less than several competing MagSafe options.I would only consider this charger when the price drops, unless style and MagSafe compatibility are your top priorities.
